Part I: Provisions Relating to Letters and Figures of the Registration Mark and Number
- In the case of a vehicle other than a motor-cycle:
(a) all letters and figures shall be 75 mm high. Every part of every letter and figure shall be at least 9mm, but not more than 11 mm, broad; and the total width of space taken by every letter or figure shall, except for the figure “i”, be a minimum of 40 mm and a maximum of 50 mm;
(b) the space between any letter and adjoining figure or between adjoining figures or between the hyphen and adjoining figures shall be a minimum of 10mm and the margin around the registration plate shall be a minimum of 15 mm;
(c) the hyphen shall be at least 20 mm in length and shall be at least 9 mm, but not more than 11 mm, broad.
- In the case of a motor-cycle:
(a) all letters and figures shall be 45 mm high. Every part of every letter and figure shall be at least 7 mm, but not more than 9 mm, broad; and the total width of space taken by every letter or figure shall, except for the figure “1”, be a minimum of 25 mm and a maximum of 30 mm;
(b) the space between any letter and adjoining figure or between adjoining figures or between the hyphen and adjoining figures shall be a minimum of 7,5 mm and the margin around the registration plate shall be a minimum of 10 mm;
(c) the hyphen shall be at least 15 mm in length and shall be at least 7 mm, but not more than 9 mm, broad.
- All letters and figures of the registration mark and number on every registration plate:
(a) shall be raised at least 1 mm, but not more than 2 mm, above the surface of the plate and shall be indelibly inscribed;
(b) shall, when they appear on a rear registration plate in 2 lines, not include a hyphen, and the distance between the 2 lines shall be not less than 15 mm.
