Yellow markings on the road surface or the kerb mean that parking or stopping is prohibited or restricted there. They are used at unloading zones, fire hydrants, bus stops and intersections, and the restriction stands whether or not an upright sign has been put beside it. White kerb and pavement markings do the opposite job: they demarcate the bays you may use.
Use an off street parking area, or a bay marked out for the purpose, wherever one is available. If you have to stop at the roadside, pull up at the extreme left of the road, facing the direction of travel, and as close to the side as you can get. Do not stop suddenly except in an emergency, and give the stop signal in good time so that the traffic behind knows what you are doing.
Parallel parking is a manoeuvre of position rather than of speed. Everything is done slowly, and the steering is wound from one lock to the other while the vehicle is standing still, not while it is moving.
