These are the regulations that replaced Zimbabwe's five licence classes with codes. Class 4 became codes B and BE, class 2 the C codes, class 1 the D codes, class 3 codes A, A1 and B1, and class 5 code BÊ, the tractor. The Fourth Schedule, near the end, is the table that says so.
Section 2 says what each code covers. Code B is a light motor vehicle of not more than 2,300 kg net, the C codes are goods vehicles of 7,500 kg gross or more, and code BÊ covers agricultural, industrial and construction tractors.
Section 4 sets the ages. Nobody is given a learner's licence under sixteen, heavy vehicles, construction vehicles and code BÊ wait until eighteen, and a learner's licence lasts twelve months. Before you may learn on a D code you must have held a full B or C licence for five years.
Section 7 says what one licence also lets you do. A full licence for one code counts as a learner's licence for certain others, and a licence for B, C or D also covers the tractor code.
The Fifth Schedule prints the fees as they were set in 2023. Fees are changed from time to time, so confirm the amount at your depot before you go.
