On or beside something standing in the roadway, an island or a traffic refuge, with the arrow pointing the side you are to take.
What to do
Pass on the left of the obstruction, the side the arrow shows, and stay well left once you are by. Going round the right of it puts you into the half of the road that oncoming traffic is using.
