Facing you where your road joins or crosses a busier one, often with a row of painted teeth across your lane.

What to do

Slow down and be ready to stop, then go once the road you are joining is clear. You need not stop if nothing is coming, and that is the whole difference from a stop sign. The sign takes rights away from you; it hands nobody a right of way.
