On the near side of the road just before a turning, where the left turn is one of the ways open to you.
What to do
It tells you the turn exists; it does not tell you to take it. If you do, mirror, signal, slow down, select the gear, then keep well left and turn into the near lane. Signal at least 50 m ahead in town and 100 m on a main road.
