Answer: On the extreme left of the road or in an authorized parking place

Park as close as you can to the left edge of the road, facing the way you were travelling, or in a marked parking place. Anywhere on the right or in the middle of the road leaves your vehicle where no other driver expects to meet a stationary car.

Answer: Under 16 years

A cyclist under 16 may not carry a passenger at all. The machine is built for one, and a young rider cannot hold the extra weight on the saddle or stop it in time.

Answer: Both of the above

A crash helmet is required of pedal cyclists and motor cyclists alike. The head is what the road hits first, and the rule does not begin at engine power.

The detour symbol is carried on a rectangular plate. The triangle is kept for danger warning signs and the circle for signs that command or prohibit, so a temporary route instruction fits neither shape.

Answer: Wait until the bus takes off and then cross the road

Stand clear and let the bus pull away before you cross. Stepping out from the front or the rear of a bus that is still standing puts a solid wall between you and the traffic, and neither of you can see the other.

Brown is the colour of signs that point to a place, and the symbol is a runner inside the oval of a running track, so a stadium is ahead. It is telling you what the place is, not warning you of athletes on the road.

Car B is turning left into the side road and keeps to its own side of the road all the way round. Car A is turning right across Car B's path, and the driver who has to cross oncoming traffic is the one who waits.

The order is red, filter arrow, green, amber, then red again. The filter arrow shows while the rest of the robot is still red so that turning traffic can clear, and amber always falls between green and red, never before green.

There are two signs on the one pole: a round sign with a bicycle in it above a STOP sign. The round sign says who the instruction is for, so it is cyclists who must stop at the line and give way to the traffic crossing ahead of them.

Under the temporary warning triangle the plate shows a closed gate across the road, so a physical barrier is ahead. A rail crossing is marked by the yellow cross sign or a train symbol, and a grid is drawn as bars in the road surface.

The yellow cross at a level crossing is a regulatory sign: it marks the crossing itself and commands you to give way to any train. Danger warning signs are red triangles, and an informative sign would only tell you what is ahead.

The plate shows a lorry on a steep downward slope, so the slope you are parked on runs downhill. Facing down a slope, leave the vehicle in reverse with the handbrake on, so that if the brake slips the engine holds the wheels against the way it wants to roll. The red border makes this a temporary sign. The red block covers the right hand lane and the arrow bends out of that lane into the middle one, so the lane you are in closes ahead and its traffic merges to the centre. Signal, look and move over early.

This is the give way sign, a yellow triangle on a round red sign. Slow down, be ready to stop, and let the traffic already on the road you are joining or crossing go first. Only the STOP sign obliges you to stop every time.

The plate is the give way triangle itself, carrying a crossroads symbol, mounted under a warning triangle. It warns that the junction ahead is controlled by a give way or a stop sign, not merely that a crossroads is coming.

Answer: White at the front and red at the back

Reflectors show white to the front and red to the rear, matching the lamps, so a driver who catches an unlit vehicle in the headlights can tell at once which way it is facing. Amber belongs on indicators and side markers.
