22. Nature, purpose, size and shape of guidance signs
(1) Guidance signs shall be of the type set out under Class I(a)(iii) in the First Schedule.
(2) The guidance or information to be given by each guidance sign shall be as specified under such sign in Class I(a)(iii) of the First Schedule.
(3) Supplementary plates shall only be used in combination with another sign type.
(4) Guidance signs shall be divided into:
(a) location signs;
(b) route marker signs;
(c) direction signs;
(d) freeway direction signs;
(e) tourism direction signs;
(f) diagrammatic signs;
(g) local direction signs;
(h) pedestrian signs; and
(i) toll signs.
(5) Guidance signs shall be rectangular and of a size sufficient to show the symbol or inscription thereon and to convey adequately the desired information.
23. Colours of guidance signs
(1) Every permanent route marker sign and direction sign shall display a light coloured inscriptions and borders on a dark coloured background.
(2) Every location sign, local direction sign and permanent diagrammatic sign shall display dark coloured inscriptions and borders on a white background.
(3) Every tourism sign shall utilize a unique brown background with white borders and a white inscription.
(4) Where applicable, the temporary versions of guidance signs shall conform to the basic black-on-yellow temporary sign colour mode.
(5) Every guidance sign indicating the direction and location of first aid facilities shall incorporate a red cross on a white background with a blue border.
24. Position of guidance signs
(1) Every guidance sign shall, where possible or appropriate, be erected or displayed on that side of the road which is to the left of drivers approaching the face of such sign.
(2) Every guidance sign shall be erected or displayed so as to be clearly visible to road users approaching it.
25. Privately-erected signs
(1) No direction sign erected by any private person shall contain red, green or yellow reflective material.
(2) The local authority within whose area of jurisdiction any sign referred to in sub-section (1) is erected may order the removal of such sign if in its opinion, it constitutes a danger to road users:
Provided that where in the Minister's opinion such a sign constitutes a danger to road users and the local authority has not taken action to remove it after reasonable written notice to it by the Minister, the Minister may order the removal of such sign.
26. Information signs
*Nature, purpose, size, shape and colours*
(1) information signs impart to road users information of a general nature, which information is non-directional.
(2) The shape of an information sign shall be a rectangle.
(3) Supplementary plates are classified under information signs but shall only be used in combination with another sign type.
(4) All permanent information signs, except IN 11 shall have white text, white symbol and white border on a green background.
(5) Where necessary, temporary information signs shall have black text, black symbol and black border on a yellow background.
