Initial Warning

The Highway Code sets out how every road user in Zimbabwe is expected to behave: drivers, riders, cyclists, passengers, pedestrians and people driving animals. Some of what it contains is prescribed by law. The rest is dictated by good sense and courtesy, and no one category is more important than the other.

Nothing in it hands you a right of way. A red light, a stop sign or a give way sign takes certain rights away from the traffic facing it. It grants you nothing. Approach every intersection knowing that no one has a right of way, and that a driver who ought to give way to you may not do so.

Saying you had the right of way settles nothing once a vehicle is wrecked or somebody is hurt. Do not merely read this Code. Study it, apply it, and drive on the assumption that the other person has not.
