Maximum speed

Speed limit signs have a distinctive red circle with a black number indicating the speed limit in kilometres per hour. Different speed limits and where they apply are described.

Where you will see it: At the point a limit begins, and repeated along the stretch it covers, most often where you come into a town or a slower section.
What to do: Do not exceed the number shown, which is in kilometres per hour. It is a maximum rather than a target, so in rain, dust or the dark the safe speed is lower, and where nothing is posted the general limit for your class still applies.
